Decoydle is a free daily game run by Sam Johnson. This page explains what information is used when you play, and why.

What’s saved on your device

Your games, results, streaks, your friend code, the name you choose, your friends list and whether you’ve done the tutorial are saved in your own browser, on your device. Clearing your browser data deletes them, which resets your stats and streaks.

Friend links

When you share an invite, the link contains your friend code and the name you chose, if you set one. Anyone you send it to can see these. Don’t use your full name if you’d rather not share it.

Friends board

The friends board is optional and is off until you turn it on. When sharing is on, your friend code, the name you chose (if any), your results for the last few days and your streak are saved on our server (Cloudflare), so friends who have your code can see them on their board. Anyone who has your friend code can see this. We don’t collect your email or any other personal details for this. A private key stays on your device so that only you can change your entry.

To stop sharing, press “Stop sharing and delete my entry” on the Friends screen and your entry is deleted. You can also email us. Entries that haven’t been updated for 180 days are deleted automatically.

Sharing your result

If you press Share or Copy, the text includes the puzzle number, your score and the emoji squares. It doesn’t include your friend code.

Hosting

Decoydle is hosted on Cloudflare, which receives technical details such as your IP address and browser type to deliver the site, keep it secure and keep logs. The fonts are hosted on the site itself, so your browser doesn’t contact Google or any other font service.

Visitor statistics

We count visits to see how Decoydle is used. We use Umami, a cloud analytics service, which loads a small script from cloud.umami.is, so your browser contacts Umami’s servers when you visit. It records things like the pages viewed, your browser and device type, screen size, language, country and where you came from. It doesn’t use cookies and doesn’t identify you personally.

Advertising

Decoydle doesn’t show ads at the moment. If we add them later, we’ll update this page first, and visitors in the UK and Europe will be asked for consent before any advertising cookies are used.

Emails you send us

If you email us with a question or a correction, we use your email only to reply. We don’t add you to any mailing list.

Children

Decoydle is a general audience game and isn’t aimed at children under 13.

Your rights

If you’re in the UK or Europe, you can ask what personal data we hold about you, and ask us to correct or delete it. Because we only hold a random friend code, send us the code shown on your Friends screen so we can find your entry. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ico.org.uk).
